Using a wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect your wireless controller to a device other than a PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console.

Using the DualSense wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect a DualSense™ wireless controller to a device running any of the following OS versions.

  • macOS Big Sur 11.3
  • iOS 14.5
  • iPadOS 14.5
  • tvOS 14.5
  • Android™ 12
  • Be sure to refer to the instructions supplied with your controller, PS5™ console, or device. Also see “DualSense wireless controller part names”.
  • Depending on the game, certain features on your controller might not be available.
  • There is no audio output from your controller. Audio output is from only the device you're using.
  • There is no guarantee that all devices are compatible with your controller.

Pairing a device

When using your controller on a device for the first time, you must pair it.

Make sure the player indicator on your controller is off.
If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off. If a USB cable is connected to your controller, disconnect it.
2.
While pressing and holding the (create) button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar blinks.
3.
Enable Bluetooth® on your device, and then select your controller from the list of Bluetooth® devices.
When pairing is complete, the light bar blinks, and then the player indicator lights up.
  • Your controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair your controller with the new device.
  • To use your controller with a PS5 console, turn on the console and use a USB cable to connect to the console, then press the PS button on your controller.

Turning on your controller

Press the PS button. After the light bar blinks, the player indicator lights up.

Turning off your controller

Press and hold the PS button until the player indicator turns off.

Charging your controller

Your controller charges via a standard USB Type-C® cable. It requires a USB Battery Charging 1.2-compatible wall charger to charge, or a standard USB 2.0 or 3.0 compatible port found on a PS5 console or Mac.

  • Use a cable that conforms to the USB standard.
  • Some devices might not be able to charge your controller.

Using the DualSense Edge wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect a DualSense Edge™ wireless controller to a device running any of the following OS versions.

  • macOS Ventura 13.3
  • iOS 16.4
  • iPadOS 16.4
  • tvOS 16.4

When playing on a PS5 console, you can customize your controller's stick sensitivity, button assignments, vibration intensity, and more, and then save those settings as profiles. You can also access the profiles saved on your controller on devices other than a PS5 console.
Note that you can customize and save profiles only on a PS5 console.

  • Be sure to refer to the instructions supplied with your controller, PS5 console, or device. Also see “DualSense Edge wireless controller part names”.

You can use Bluetooth® to connect a DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller to a device running any of the following OS versions.

  • macOS Catalina
  • iOS 13
  • iPadOS 13
  • tvOS 13
  • Android™ 10
  • Be sure to refer to the instructions supplied with your controller, device, and PS4™ console.
  • For details on your controller’s part names, refer to the user's guide for the PS4 console.
  • When using Bluetooth® to connect your controller to a Windows PC, use a DUALSHOCK®4 USB wireless adaptor.
  • There is no audio output from your controller. Audio output is from only the device you're using.
  • There is no guarantee that all devices are compatible with your controller.

When pairing is complete, the light bar turns a solid color.
  • Your controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair your controller with the new device.
  • To use your controller with a PS4 console, turn on the console and use a USB cable to connect to the console, then press the PS button on your controller.

Charging your controller

  • Use a cable that conforms to the USB standard.
  • Some devices might not be able to charge your controller.

  • Use a Windows PC to update the firmware of DualSense wireless controllers and DualSense Edge wireless controllers. For details, see “Update the wireless controller firmware”.
