Using a wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect your wireless controller to a device other than a PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console.

Using the DualSense wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect a DualSense™ wireless controller to a device running any of the following OS versions.

  • macOS Big Sur 11.3
  • iOS 14.5
  • iPadOS 14.5
  • tvOS 14.5
  • Be sure to refer to the instructions supplied with your controller, PS5™ console, or device. Also see “Controller part names”.
  • Depending on the device, certain features on the controller might not be available. There is no guarantee that all devices are compatible with the controller.

Pairing a device

When using a controller on a device for the first time, you must pair it.

1.
Make sure the player indicator on the controller is off.
If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off. If a USB cable is connected to the controller, disconnect it.

While pressing and holding the (create) button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar blinks.

Enable Bluetooth® on your device, and then select the controller from the list of Bluetooth® devices.
When pairing is complete, the light bar blinks, and then the player indicator lights up.
  • A controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair the controller with the new device.
  • To use the controller with a PS5 console, turn on the console and use a USB cable to connect to the console, then press the PS button on the controller.

Turning on the controller

Press the PS button. After the light bar blinks, the player indicator lights up.

Turning off the controller

Press and hold the PS button until the player indicator turns off.

Charging the controller

The controller charges via a standard USB Type-C® cable. It requires a USB Battery Charging 1.2-compatible wall charger to charge, or a standard USB 2.0 or 3.0 compatible port found on a PS5 console or Mac.

  • Use a cable that conforms to the USB standard.
  • Some devices might not be able to charge the controller.

Using the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller

You can use Bluetooth® to connect a DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller to a device running any of the following OS versions.

  • macOS Catalina
  • iOS 13
  • iPadOS 13
  • tvOS 13
  • Android™ 10
  • Be sure to refer to the instructions supplied with your controller, device, and PS4™ console.
  • For details on the controller’s part names, refer to the user's guide for the PS4 console.
  • When using Bluetooth® to connect the controller to a Windows PC, use a DUALSHOCK®4 USB wireless adaptor.
  • Depending on the device, certain features on the controller might not be available. There is no guarantee that all devices are compatible with the controller.

Pairing a device

When using a controller on a device for the first time, you must pair it.

Make sure the light bar on the controller is off.
If the light bar is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off. If a USB cable is connected to the controller, disconnect it.

While pressing and holding the SHARE button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar flashes.
3.
Enable Bluetooth® on your device, and then select the controller from the list of Bluetooth® devices.
When pairing is complete, the light bar turns a solid color.
  • A controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair the controller with the new device.
  • To use the controller with a PS4 console, turn on the console and use a USB cable to connect to the console, then press the PS button on the controller.

Charging the controller
